Schalke has reportedly offered Alexander Nübel a huge contract that even eclipses Bayern Munich’s offer for him, according to Sport Bild. Nübel currently makes around €600,000 per year, but he would make up to ten times that amount if he signed the deal in front of him. Nübel’s current contract will run out in 2020 so he will soon have to make some very tough decisions about who he is going to play for.

Bayern could sign Nübel on a free transfer this summer, but they would definitely have to break the bank when it comes to his salary. Nübel has apparently already decided to turn down RB Leipzig as his next destination, but he remains undecided on where he will ultimately play. Many see Nübel as a great replacement for Manuel Neuer for both Bayern and even Germany down the line, but signs may indicate that Nübel will not join Bayern after all.

First, Neuer has been in great form for both Bayern and Germany and it is rumored that he may soon extend his contract with Bayern by two years. Nübel may not want to wait for Neuer to retire or move on before becoming the Bayern no. 1, since he is already a starting goalkeeper in the Bundesliga. Also, Bayern Munich just announced the contract extension of U-23 goalkeeper Christian Früchtl. Früchtl has impressed the bosses at Bayern Munich so far and could eventually be given a shot with the first team. He is only 19 years old and has long been considered Neuer’s heir apparent.

Schalke definitely does not want to see history repeat itself and watch their star goalkeeper leave for Bavaria again. They are doing everything they can to entice Nübel into staying, including giving him the captaincy this year along with this contract offer. Schalke and Bayern will probably have more competitors to contend with that will be interested in signing Nübel too.
