Good news from Säbener Strasse! Bayern Munich has announced the extension of U-23 goalkeeper Christian Früchtl this morning with a 2-year deal that will run until June of 2022.

From a pure talent standpoint, this is undoubtedly a very good move for FC Bayern. Given all of the current rumors regarding Bayern and Schalke Keeper Alexander Nübel, at the very least this has to represent Bayern’s faith in their young goalkeeper. With that being said, I still do not expect Früchtl to be a regular first-team keeper in the near future. But given his current age (19), the fact he is already playing with the U23’s, and the age of Manuel Neuer (33), it could very well represent a sign of what’s to come: Früchtl is being groomed to be the in-house apparent of Manuel Neuer.
Früchtl has played 14 games for Bayern II this season in the third German division and, surprisingly, has one assist.
We at BFW want to congratulate Früchtl and wish him the very best! Considering the talent of the young goalkeeper and the age of Bayern’s first choice, it is great to hear Bayern have secured their top-goalkeeping talent for the next two years to come.
