After entering the halftime break level at one, Bayern Munich could smell extra time coming against Wolfsburg as the minutes ticked away. But, fate had other ideas, and Wolfsburg grabbed two goals in the final five minutes to knock the Bavarians out of the DFB Pokal Round of 16,
After a tense opening twenty minutes, Wolfsburg jumped out on top from Ewa Pajor. She beat Laura Benkarth to a rebound and punched it in to give Wolfsburg the early lead. However, in the final seconds of the first half, Jovana Damnjanovic scored the equalizer to send the two teams into the break level at one each.
The second half was back and forth between the two sides with both Lineth Beerensteyn and Alexandra Popp nearly putting their respective sides on top. Wolfsburg would not be denied, however. Dominique Janssen finally nabbed their winner in the 85th minute, and Pajor would add one more in stoppage time to end any Bayern hope of a comeback.
Bayern XI: Benkarth - Hendrich, Wenninger (87. Islacker), Laudehr, Simon - Škorvánková (67. Ilestedt), Magull, Lohmann, Beerensteyn - Dallmann (77. Schweers) - Damnjanović
Bayern and Wolfsburg will get right back on the field against each other next weekend when the Bavarians visit Wolfsburg in the Frauen Bundesliga. There’s no rest for the weary.
