Bayern Munich continues their search for a coach after sacking Niko Kovac. Names like Arsene Wenger, Thomas Tuchel, and Erik ten Hag have been linked with the job but no agreement has been made as of yet with any of them. For now, Hansi Flick will stay on as manager at an interim basis, but Bayern still needs to find a long-term solution. Could Pep Guardiola possibly make a return to Munich?

The Athletic has laid out a case for different coaches, including Guardiola. Guardiola still has property in Munich, he also visits Munich occasionally, and maintains a good relationship with the club. On top of that, he is also been rumored to be in his final season at Manchester City. Pep has coached at City since 2016 and does not stay on coaching assignments for too long. He served as Bayern’s manager for only three years and Barcelona’s for four. The Athletic’s source told the outlet,

I feel that, for the first time, City are preparing for either eventuality: Pep stays or Pep leaves. Previously, it was only “Pep stays.”

It thus seems like Guardiola might leave Manchester City soon, but the question is when and for where. Guardiola could return to finish what he started at Bayern and win a Champions League trophy with the club. That trophy, however, still eludes him in Manchester.

Things this season are not going as well for the Premier League champions as they would like. City just lost to Liverpool 3-1, sit 4th on the table, and have many injuries to contend with in the back.
