Fortune is not on Bayern Munich’s side. In the space of two games, the Bavarian giants have seen two of their first-eleven center-backs go off injured. First Niklas Süle damaged his ACL against Augsburg and will be on the sidelines for many months to come, and just now, Lucas Hernandez had to go off in Bayern’s Champions League match against Olympiacos after injuring his ankle.
Both injuries were the result of non-contact and, in Hernandez’s case, we could be looking at an Achilles tendon injury. Hernandez had to be helped off the pitch and he looked to be in serious pain. The silver lining to what could become a sour situation is that the Bayern players professionally took the lead just minutes after their teammate came off.
Bayern is currently winning against Greek side Olympiacos and would top the group with three out of three wins if the result does not change. For now, let’s hope that Hernandez’s injury is not too serious.
Fingers crossed and we will keep you updated.
