Bild reports that Philippe Coutinho flew in his own personal physiotherapist from Spain. This comes after his return from Singapore where he competed in multiple friendlies during the international break with Brazil. Coutinho and the physio, Ruben Pons, met during the Brazilian’s spell at Liverpool through Jürgen Klopp. Pons helped Coutinho recover throughout his time at FC Barcelona as well.
Pons left Liverpool after four years to become an independent contractor. He has previously worked with Egyptian superstar Mohamed Salah during the 2018 World Cup in addition to Coutinho. With the amount of injuries that have already hit Bayern Munich it is a relief to hear Coutinho is going above and beyond to stay fit.
It is not uncommon for players to have their own personal physiotherapists and trainers accompany them on their travels. Douglas Costa’s personal trainer Lukas Kruel followed him all the way from Ukraine to Munich, where he now has a studio and continues to work with Costa, Thiago Alcantara, and (at least until he returned to Brazil) Rafinha.
