Well, the very short wait is over. Bastian Schweinsteiger and German news agency ARD have agreed for a deal for Schweinsteiger to become a new football expert on Sportschau starting in 2020. Both Schweinsteiger and ARD announced the agreement in a video earlier this morning that was a beautiful homage to his career for both FC Bayern and Die Mannshaft, highlighting his career highs such as winning the World Cup and Champions League and lows such as his missed penalty vs Chelsea. This video can be watched below:
Ich freue mich auf die neue Aufgabe als TV Experte bei der ARD @sportschau und auf die gemeinsame Zeit.

Schweinsteiger’s career plans post retirement were the subject of some speculation here at BFW, which can be read here, ranging from a potential coaching role to the DFB. But it is safe to say Schweinsteiger made up his mind relatively quickly, considering he officially retired less than a week ago after spending three years in the MLS with the Chicago Fire. (Thankfully, the Fire is my home team, so I was fortunate to see him play live numerous times during those years!)
Bastian Schweinsteiger follows a similar path as Oliver Kahn, who was a TV pundit for several years on ZDF, RTL, and other various German networks prior to his much anticipated move to the Bayern front office.
I, for one, cannot wait to see my new favorite German football analyst on TV starting in 2020.
