Things have not been going well for Emre Can at Juventus as he struggles to find playing time. The Serie A team has a wealth of midfielders, including German World Cup winner Sami Khedira, French World Cup winner Blaise Matuidi, Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot, and Miralem Pjanic. Juventus manager Maurizio Sarri has not given Can many chances to prove himself, playing only 78 minutes this campaign. To make matters even more frustrating, Emre Can was also left off of Juventus’ Champions League roster altogether.
Joachim Löw, however, called Can for this round of European Qualifiers and started him at center-back for Germany’s friendly against Argentina. The game was a breath of fresh air for the player. After the match he told reporters,
At the moment I’m not happy. I’m not playing much, in contrast to last season, in which I played in many important matches. How can I improve the situation? By doing well. I haven’t yet had my chance, but I think I’ll get it on my return. I’m very grateful to Joachim Löw for calling me up despite not playing much. He gave me a chance. For that, I’m happy I got out on the pitch.
Can played well yesterday but was unlucky when a shot was deflected off him and went into the goal. Hopefully, he will get a chance to show Sarri what he can do when club football returns.
This is not the first time Emre Can has struggled for playing time. He left Bayern Munich for that exact reason earlier in his career.
