Bayern Munich seem to be off to a good start in 2019 as they make an addition to their squad even before the commencement of the second half of the season. Sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić confirmed that Stuttgart defender Benjamin Pavard has inked a 5-year contract with the Bavarians. The center-back will join the club at the end of the season, on July 1st. Speaking to the press in Doha, Brazzo said (FCBayern.com):

We’ve signed Benjamin Pavard for 1 July 2019. He’s put pen to paper on a five-year contract. He’s a young player and a world champion. We’re very glad and proud to have gained such a player for FC Bayern.

Bayern are said to have agreed a transfer fee of €35 million for Pavard, whose contract with VfB Stuttgart ran until 2021. He will be joining his French companions Kingsley Coman and Corentin Tolisso in Munich.

Like Lucas Hernandez, Benjamin Pavard is a center-back who can also play at fullback, making him a candidate to replace Rafinha, who is slated to leave in the summer. Therefore, the Frenchman is an ideal choice and his arrival would help fill existing holes in the team.

This finally puts an end to the speculation surrounding the Pavard transfer, which has been rumored since the days of the 2018 World Cup. While there was a momentary twist in the tale with reports that both Barcelona and Napoli were interested, Bayern Munich fans can now rest easy knowing that they’ve got their man.
