In a recent Sport 1 report, it was confirmed that 18 year-old Franck Evina will join Holstein Kiel for the next one-and-a-half years. While the Cameroonian waits to break into Niko Kovac’s senior team, he’ll have an opportunity to prove himself against solid competition. Instead of staying in the Regionalliga, the prospect will be able to experience life as close as it gets to the Bundesliga with Kiel. They are currently in 5th place in the second division. If Evina contributes well, there’s a chance that he could even help his new team to promotion and spend his final year on loan in the same league as his parent club.
An interesting storyline is how Evina will be coached by Tim Walter. Both know each other after working together in the 2016/17 season for the youth team. It will be interesting to see if working with his old coach will help Evina produce similar success as in the past.
Currently, Evina has played 16 matches in the Regionalliga and produced three goals and one assist. This means that he was able to match his goal tally from last year, but he couldn’t reach the six assists he previously totalled.
With a youth turnaround approaching Bayern, Evina will surely be in the record champion’s long term plans. Already with young wingers like Kingsley Coman, Serge Gnabry, and Alphonso Davies, he could take his place as a key part of a devastating attack down the flanks. We’re going to have to wait another year-and-a-half to see it, but when we do, we could be in for a treat.
