In an effort to keep prized youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea is offering the 18-year-old a significant pay raise per a report by the Daily Mail.
Chelsea are prepared to make Callum Hudson-Odoi one of world football’s best-paid teenagers to keep him at the club. Sportsmail understands the club are willing to offer Hudson-Odoi a new deal worth a minimum of £50,000-per-week, rising to as much as £70,000-per-week if he meets certain targets. Hudson-Odoi, who grew up in Wandsworth, currently earns in the region of £22,000-per-week. The deal underlines how determined Chelsea are about keeping their academy star at the club.
For comparison, the salary could be worth the equivalent of €79.4k per week if Hudson-Odoi hits the aforementioned targets. For comparison, Niklas Süle reportedly earns €78k per week.
Chelsea, of course, is not necessarily doing this out of the goodness of its heart. Earlier this week it was reported that Chelsea rejected Bayern Munich’s fourth bid for Hudson-Odoi. Bayern has put a full-court press on Hudson-Odoi in an effort to bring the rising star to Germany.
Will this financial boost be enough to convince Hudson-Odoi to stay or will he continue to seek out a move to the Bundesliga? It is also worth asking if Hudson-Odoi and his advisors are playing the long-game with this and getting the intended results: a big pay raise by using Die Roten as leverage.
