Robert Lewandowski knows a little something about scoring goals in the Bundesliga as he stormed onto the scene for Borussia Dortmund at just 22-years-old. Now an elder statesman in Munich, the Polish Hitman is helping young Alphonso Davies adjust to life with Bayern Munich.
In an interview with fcbayern.tv (via Bundesliga.com), Lewandowski explained that he tries to talk with the young starlet consistently, noting the importance of integrating the winger affectionately known as “Phonzy” into the squad.
For him I know that’s very important, that he feels comfortable in the new team and I want to help him. Of course, he’s very young, but I think he’ll be a great player!
Although the 18-year-old is not expected to star for the Bavarian giants in the Ruckrunde, substantial minutes in the league and the domestic cup are not out of the question and the first team has taken special measures to prepare him. With both Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben injured and prone to injury, alongside Kinglsey Coman and Serge Gnabry who have experienced their fair share of time out, Davies may be called on to deputize on either the right or the left wing.
The potential arrival of 18-year-old prodigy Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea, in addition to Coman, Gnabry, and Davies, leaves the Rekordmeister’s attack in good hands for years to come.
How do you think Davies will fare in his first half-season with Die Roten?
