Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski was embroiled in a transfer saga that raged for roughly seven months in 2018. According to his former agent Cezary Kucharski, however, the only teams that the Poland international would have considered were Bayern and Real Madrid.
As told to AS, Kucharski dismissed any potential links to Paris Saint-Germain or any of the English clubs, such as Chelsea and Manchester United who were rumored to be interested in the Polish Hitman.
We could have fought for the transfer but there was a risk involved. Our actions could have been insufficient to take him to Madrid or to sign a much more advantageous contract with Bayern. In football business, I never wanted to risk my client. He had a lot of options of clubs. The thing is that a move to France [PSG] did not suit his wife and they did not want to move to England. The only thing that counted for Robert was the Spanish sun, and Real Madrid.
Interestingly, Kucharski pinned the failure to move to Real Madrid on Lewandowski’s new agent Pini Zahavi.
The minute Lewandowski’s connection with [new agent] Zahavi was announced, it was clear to me that there was no possibility of signing for Real Madrid.
Regardless, Bayern and Lewandowski came to an understanding, where both the club and player felt comfortable moving forward in hopes of the Pole finishing his career — or at least his current contract through 2021 — in Bavaria.
