We all knew this was coming, but maybe not this soon. In an interview with kicker (via ESPN), Franck Ribery failed to deny speculation that this could be his last year at the club.
It’s too early to say now. I’d be up for another season, but let’s wait and see how this season shapes up. I am relaxed and don’t put myself under pressure. You must assess your performances correctly. It’s too early to say now.
Ribery has spent 12 seasons in Bavaria and signed a one-year contract at the end of last season. He says he received offers to leave for more money, but always wanted to stay in Munich.
I never wanted to leave. There were serious offers from China, but I like the Bundesliga and the Champions League. I dream of winning [the UCL] for the second time.
Despite this speculation, Ribery said he plans on playing until he is 38.
I am still ambitious, I am still driven. I have never said to myself this will be the last year. I have won everything, I can relax now. I always give it my all because it could be my last year.
Bayern have enough money to purchase new talent if needed, and with players like Alphonso Davies in the pipeline, the club has a suitable replacement. However, we must all prepare for the inevitable day when the beautiful partnership of Robbery will eventually fade away.
