The injury nightmare continues: Bayern Munich’s latest casualty is Leon Goretzka, who collided with Maxime Awoudja in training during a training game and went to the ground. According to Bild (paywall; via TZ), Bayern’s physiotherapist Stephan Weickert and coach Nico Kovac immediately rushed over. After a few minute, Goretzka limped off the field with a bandaged foot.
If the injury is as serious as it looks, Goretzka will be yet another player unavailable for Bayern for their Champions League opener on Wednesday night in Lisbon. He joins Kingsley Coman, who suffered a syndesmosis tear on the opening matchday against Hoffenheim; and Corentin Tolisso and Rafinha. Tolisso suffered a torn ACL this past weekend against Leverkusen, while Rafinha suffered ligament damage from a reckless tackle by Karim Bellarabi.
Robben and Ribery also did not train with the team. Ribery reportedly had an upset stomach, while Robben trained individually indoors. Robben is virtually a lock to start on Wednesday in Portugal.
