Injury update: Mats Hummels misses training, is doubtful for Leverkusen

The defender has reportedly been dealing with a tendon injury during the international break

Korea Republic v Germany: Group F - 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia

After appearing against France in Germany’s first Nations League match, Mats Hummels found himself benched against Peru. However, it wasn’t just a simple rotation of defenders that saw him sitting on the sidelines.

According to AZ, Hummels didn’t appear at Bayern Munich’s first training session after the international break because he was seeking treatment for his Achilles tendon. Team doctors were unclear on when he would return, leaving his status up in the air for the upcoming match against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

Joachim Löw said Hummels was complaining about problems during the game against France and made the decision to sit him saying, “[The injury] is nothing dramatic, but we will not take the risk.”

If Hummels does indeed have to sit this one out, Niklas Süle is a more than capable replacement. But, as nothing is concrete, Bayern fans will just have to sit and wait until more information is released.
