David Alaba calls Chris Richards “Texas” (MLSSoccer.com)

Leave it to David Alaba to coin a nickname for Texans Soccer Club and FC Dallas product Chris Richards, who performed very strongly for Bayern Munich on the Audi Tour in the International Champions Cup.

FC Dallas’ on-loan Bayern Munich defender Chris Richards is making a name for himself this preseason — literally. Richards joined Bayern from MLS in July with much less fanfare than Alphonso Davies would generate a few weeks later. But Richards has started to turn heads since making his preseason debut with the Bavarian outfit on July 21, even if his teammates weren’t always certain of his name.

The problem for Alaba (huge BFW supporter by the way) was that neither “Chris” nor “Richards” seemed to be sticking; so he had to come up with something to remember.

At some point I forgot his first name, but I knew he was from Texas, so I first called him ‘Texas’. In the meantime, I also know his real name very well! He is a good boy. He plays well, trains hard and he has his goal in mind. If he keeps working that way, he can make progress. He is very talented, that’s why he is here. I think he has the potential for a great career.

Yeah, we know Richards is originally from Alabama, but that is a couple syllables too long to work as a nickname, so Alaba made due!

Anyway, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge also appears to be a fan of Richards:

No. We have (Mats) Hummels, we have (Niklas) Sule, (Javi) Martinez who can play as centerback. Also David Alaba, and two youngsters in Lukas Mai and Chris Richards. That’s much quality.

Jerome Boateng’s suitors are down to Man U (surprise!) and PSG

Jerome Boateng looks like he may be following Arturo Vidal out of Bavaria with Manchester United and Paris-Saint Germain as the primary bidders. For Man U, the Premier League window closes on August 9th, while PSG has more time to operate.

Rummenigge had recently been very willing to provide information and reported that Boateng’s consultant is already negotiating with Paris. Recently brought the “Bild” newspaper Manchester United as another prospective for the world champion of 2014 into the conversation.

The club of the island and coach star José Mourinho are said to have offered in exchange for the central defender, the French offensive player Anthony Martial. But Bayern refused, as Rummenigge told the newspaper. The Bayern boss would let Boateng go, that’s well known. The transfer fee for the tied until 2021 defender is reported to exceed 50 million euros. Because in England the transfer window is only open until August 9th, ManUnited would have to act fast. On Sunday, the “Red Devils” guest to a test match in Munich - Boateng should probably do so because of training backlog there. Paris and coach Thomas Tuchel, however, have until the end of August time to agree with Bayern Munich on a change from Boateng.

If either Manchester United or PSG antes up €50M, Bayern will probably pull the trigger, but this will be a waiting game until that formally happens.

Arturo Vidal is gone, but the memory of his ferocious tackles will live on! (Bundesliga.com)

Arturo Vidal’s transfer to FC Barcelona is complete, so let’s take a look at some of his finest work.

Schalke 04 rallies for Franco DiSanto and wins the day (@Schalke04)

When an angry fan yelled at Franco DiSanto to “Go home!”, the Royal Blues rallied around their teammate. It’s not often we point out good things about Schalke in these parts, but Die Königsblauen deserves a standing ovation for this.

Thomas Müller’s Bundesliga’s goals and assists from 2017-2018 (Bundesliga.com)

I think some people forget that Thomas Müller had a very nice season last year. Here are his eight goals and 14 assists from the Bundesliga, which were just a part of his 15 goals and 18 assists from all competitions last season.
