In the wake of the respective transfer windows closing in both France and Germany, Niko Kovac finally confronted Jerome Boateng and discussed his role and his future at Bayern Munich:
I spoke to Jerome and told him clearly that, in my opinion, he is one of the world’s best central defenders.
According to Kovac, the possibility is that Boateng would not move to France, or any other club for that matter, and would happily stay in Munich:
Therefore if he wants to, he’s very welcome to stay. However, if he decides to move, I would understand that as well. But my feeling is that he would happily stay.
Karl Heinz Rummenigge had a different take on the situation. Since the transfer window closes on Friday, the management have to stay put. KHR said that they know how to keep their nerve in situations like these. Whether Jerome stays or not, it's his decision. Whatever happens, the club is ready to accept it:
I’m not ruling out anything. We just have to sit tight for the next few days. Uli and I have been in this business for a long time and are known for keeping our nerve in these situations. We can even sleep well at night.
