Christian Falk refutes Toby Alderweireld rumors (@cfbayern)
Christian Falk of SportBild has brushed aside the whispers that Bayern Munich is pursuing Tottenham Hotspur center back Toby Alderweireld.
Based on our informations Toby Alderweireld (29) @SpursOfficial is not on the transfer-list of @FCBayern for this summer. If @JB17Official should leave Munich, the club plans with @matshummels Niklas Süle @Javi8martinez @David_Alaba (Backup) for the two positions in the defense
— Christian Falk (@cfbayern) August 16, 2018
If Jerome Boateng leaves, Javi Martinez as a backup center back solution makes sense, but David Alaba does not (at least to me). It’s not that Alaba can’t do it, but why weaken two spots (left back and center back) by moving Alaba? Stating that Lars Lukas Mai was the contingency plan should there be injuries to Mats Hummels, Niklas Süle, etc. would have been more reassuring.
All that said, Jerome Boateng is running out of time if he is looking to make a move and with each passing day a transfer looks less likely for the German international.
AS Roma to make a late bid for Leon Bailey? (Goal.com)
Ronan Murphy of Goal.com reported that Serie A’s AS Roma may make a last ditch effort to acquire Bayer Leverkusen’s electric winger Leon Bailey.
Roma have made a €40m bid for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey, according to Mediaset Premium. #ASRoma #B04

€40M does not seem like it would be enough to get Bailey. Die Werkself has a commodity in Bailey that should only grow in value over the course of this season. Roma, which is still likely stinging from FC Barcelona’s last minute swoop in to pull Malcom away, probably won’t be able to get Leverkusen on the phone for anything less than €50M.

Eintracht Frankfurt is making Ante Rebić its focal point (DW)
New Die Adler coach Adi Hütter is expecting a lot from Croatia star Ante Rebić. Rebić, of course, was reportedly linked to Bayern, Manchester United, and Sevilla among others this offseason. Hütter admires the versatility and talent that Rebić brings to the pitch:
He lines up willingly on the left, where he can cut inside. He can play up front on his own or play with two strikers. His drive, pace and presence makes him an important player for my system.
Eintracht Frankfurt will struggle to achieve the same results it had last season under Niko Kovač, but that doesn’t mean it will be as bad Bayern made it look in the DFB-Supercup.

A call for fan groups (BavarianFootballWorks.com)
We are going to try something here at the Daily Schmankerl and need YOUR help. If you read my man Tommy Adams’ piece about his experience with the FCBNYC Fan Club (if you haven’t, SHAME ON YOU!), you could see how great the event was. So we want to highlight some of these wonderful groups that are out there globally and this is what we need from you:
- Name of the group:
- Location:
- Year founded:
- Leadership (if you have people are kind of running the show):
- Meeting place:
- Social media handles:
- Pictures
I’d LOVE to be able to feature a different fan group every week this season. Maybe we can do it, maybe not...but only YOU can help decide the fate of this idea. Send your info to: barrelsportsblog@gmail.com
