Bayern Munich officially kicked off the new season under Niko Kovac by bringing home its first silverware of the season after thrashing Eintracht Frankfurt 5-0 in the DFL-Supercup final on Friday.

Robert Lewandowski, who faced criticism due to his poor performance last season, was clinical throughout the game. After everything he has allegedly done and went through last season, the performance at Commerzbank Arena was the perfect way for the Pole to get going. Kovac acknowledged that Lewandowski is a world class striker and said that his solid performance proved that he is, indeed, a world class striker (via Sportskeeda):

We don’t have to talk that much about Robert. He is a very good and world class striker, who proved this today. It’s not easy to score three goals in 70 minutes.

Before talking much about the game, Kovac also thanked Jupp Heynckes for leaving him a strong team:

I have to mention that the reason why we played today is because of Eintracht Frankfurt and Jupp Heynckes, who won the championship last year. Thanks to him to leave me this strong team. To work with this squad, that’s fun. I hope that we continue to be so successful.

Lewandowski bagged a brace before the whistle blew for halftime, guaranteeing the visitors a lead of 2-0. Strikes from Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman and Thiago Alcántara in the second half altered the scoreline and helped Bayern win the title in a better margin. Kovac said that he hopes this victory would help the team strengthen their future. He also wished Adi Hütter's side luck for the new season and said that he hopes for them to have a season as successful as the last one under him:

We managed to let the ball circulate well. We actually did not allow any big scoring chances. I imagined that as well. The first 20 minutes were not easy, because Frankfurt were compact. Through a strong action on the right side by Joshua Kimmich and Lewandowski, the game gets easier for us. Then of course it plays in our cards. Maybe you could have expected one or two goals less. I am satisfied and I hope that this title will strengthen us in the future. Of course I wish my Eintracht all the best and that the season is as successful as the last one.
