According to a report by kicker, Bayern Munich have left four first-team players behind in Munich ahead of the DFL Supercup against Eintracht Frankfurt. Niko Kovac will have to make do without the services of James Rodriguez (attacking midfield), Serge Gnabry (winger), Jerome Boateng (central defense), and Renato Sanches (central midfield) in his reunion with his former club.
Let’s just recap the various ailments that plague this club, shall we?
- James Rodriguez: Has problems with his ankle. In a testament to Bayern’s terrible luck, he got the injury in our 20-2 friendly win over a tenth division team. James wasn’t able to complete the most recent training sessions, and he is certainly not ready to play in the Supercup.
- Serge Gnabry: Gnabry missed his final team training with a thigh problem. We have no idea how serious it is or when he will recover, but according to kicker he will not participate in the game — despite Kovac’s repeated assurances that James was the only injured player on the squad.
- Jerome Boateng: Boateng reportedly has problems with his patella, which he picked up in that accursed game against Rottach-Egern. Now that his move to PSG has been scuppered, Bayern Munich fans will hope that the injury isn’t serious.
- Renato Sanches: What is going on with Renato Sanches? He’s been marked down with “lumbar problems” since the second game of the preseason. We keep seeing him in training, but it looks like the medical staff don’t think he’s ready to play an actual game yet.
