Bayern Munich fans can breath a sigh of relief — it seems as though PSG’s pursuit of Jerome Boateng is coming to an end. According to reports, the Parisians have just completed the signing of Schalke 04 defender Thilo Kehrer for 37m euros, making it unlikely that they will continue their pursuit of the Bayern Munich center back. After rejecting Manchester United, Jerome Boateng may play in Bavarian red for another season.
@FCBayern @SPORTBILD #Boateng @s04

The “Boateng to PSG” saga has raged for pretty much the entire summer thus far, with Bayern making it clear that they will listen to offers that match their valuation. Thomas Tuchel reportedly wanted the world cup winner on his squad for the upcoming campaign, but PSG faced financial hurdles due to UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules. The Bavarians wanted a rumored 60m EUR for the 29 year old, which was steep even for PSG’s standards.
Now, with the signing of Kehrer, Tuchel will have his man, just not the man he wanted. It’s unlikely that PSG will ever attempt to meet Bayern’s price for Boateng now that they’ve signed a younger, cheaper substitute. Boateng himself has been sidelined for Bayern’s upcoming DFL Supercup against Frankfurt with a knee injury, but this isn’t thought to have influenced the course of events.
Unless some other club jumps into the fray at this eleventh hour, Jerome Boateng is guaranteed to be a Bayern Munich player next season.
