According to a new report by Bild (via TZ), Robert Lewandowski has all but given up hope of leaving Bayern Munich after Pini Zahavi, the man Lewa specifically hired to get a move to Madrid, told the striker that he will not get his dream transfer to the Santiago Bernabau. Lewandowski was reportedly surprised by his agent’s candidness.
Now, the striker is out doing damage control, hoping to win the Champions League with Bayern. He has also reportedly asked to discuss Bayern’s aptitude for late-season injuries with the bosses at the club later in July.
Lewandowski had supposedly held out hope that he might still secure a transfer on the heels of a solid World Cup performance, but the striker’s campaign for Poland was awful. Lewandowski started in all three of Poland’s games in Russia but did not appear once on the score sheet.
Lewandowski returns to a club whose fan base may have as much ire for him as Borussia Dortmund’s. The summer game of Jeopardy that he played with Die Roten has left an awful taste in fans’ mouths. Now that he’s got nowhere to go, it’s time for Lewa to make nice.
