Bayern Munich is winding down its tour of the United States with its final match across the pond against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. Despite the short trip, Die Roten could be in the process of another addition to its decidedly American youth movement. Chris Cappis is the latest USMNT product to go on trial in Bavaria, joining the likes of Taylor Booth, Cameron Duke, and Ulysses Llanez, as well as Chris Richards, who has impressed on the preseason tour thus far. Interestingly, Cappis starred at the same U.S. Development Academy club as Richards, Texans Soccer Club based out of Houston, Texas. Richards joined the club at the age of 16 when he re-located from Alabama, while Cappis is a Houston-area native.

As reported by Stars and Stripes FC, Cappis began his trial in Munich this week. FC Dallas correspondent Arman Kafai confirmed via Twitter that the young American is currently trying out in the Bavarian capital and interestingly, “that the Chris Cappis trial at Bayern Munich is NOT apart of the FC Dallas partnership.”

The American is a somewhat unknown quantity, but the fact that this is not merely a part of the agreement between the two clubs indicates he may find himself in Bayern’s youth set-up permanently. Despite the lack of information about the young midfielder, his resume indicates this is a savvy move by the Bavarian giants. The 19-year old, who has already featured for the USMNT U-18s and received a call up for the U-20s, is touted as a creative midfielder who links play well. And hey, his favorite player is Luka Modrić, so that may be a good sign as well.

With a veteran (or aging) squad, the Bavarians have sought to inject the squad with young, more developed talent a la Leon Goretzka, Corentin Tolisso and the most recent addition to the first team, Alphonso Davies. Hasan “Brazzo” Salihamidžić has also sought to revamp the Bayern youth program in order to return it to its former, productive glory.

Below is a highlight package of Cappis from his days suiting up for the Texans Soccer Club (Houston, TX).

Which academy youngsters do you think will be the next to break through?
