Serge Gnabry looking to Arjen Robben for right wing expertise

The versatile winger will learn under one of the best.

It’s been an unconventional journey for Serge Gnabry in his arrival to Bayern Munich. The former Arsenal/Werder Bremen/Hoffenheim player has played left, right, and center for just about every team he’s been on. That versatility has served him well, obviously, earning the attention of one of the biggest clubs in the world, but sometimes being a jack of all trades means being a master of none. This offseason Serge aims to fix all that with a focus on the right wing.

The one problem with this plan? Why, Arjen Robben of course. The ageless Flying Dutchman just signed a one-year extension this offseason keeping him in Munich through the 2018-19 season, but rather than see him as a roadblock to playing time, Gnabry is embracing this as an opportunity to learn from one of the best right wingers of his generation.

Though maybe not a natural right winger, this is a very smart move for the 23-year old Gnabry. He may not get regular first team minutes with Robben ahead of him, but he will get a start here and there for some meaningless Bundesliga games and theoretically be ready to go after next season.
