The sequel to Javi Martinez’s unfortunate leg injury has come: Martinez suffered a bruise to his leg, when Andrea Favilli fell on top of him during a challenge in the first half of Bayern Munich’s friendly match against Juventus in Philadelphia. Martinez was replaced by David Alaba within minutes.

Speaking to the press after the match, Niko Kovac said (Abendzeitung),

He has a muscle bruise. At the moment he fell down, the opposing player fell on top of him so that he immediately felt pain there. We took him out as a precaution. Nothing is broken in the muscle. I assume that it’ll be fine in one or two days.

Martinez will be seen by team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfahrt imminently, but sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic was also optimistic:

I still have to talk to the doctor. At first glance, I don’t think it’s anything bad, but we have to wait for the diagnosis. “Mull” will do that soon enough.
