Besides an unflattering 0-2 scoreline, Bayern Munich also suffered an unfortunate preseason injury, as well. Midfielder Javi Martinez had to leave the match late in the first half after suffering an injury. Martinez fell awkwardly and could be seen walking gingerly off the pitch. He headed down the tunnel accompanied by a member of Bayern’s medical staff.
The unfortunate injury came just moments after Josip Stanisić sent an errant back-pass intended for Sven Ulreich well off target toward the goal line. Ulreich attempted to keep the ball in bounds with a sliding kick, but inadvertently passed it back to Juventus. Immediately finding himself in a two-on-one, Ulreich was helpless to stop Andrea Favilli from scoring the go-ahead goal.
Martinez meanwhile was replaced by David Alaba. We will report more on the extent of Martinez’s injury when further details emerge.
