Despite yesterday’s report that Bayern Munich were in final discussions to sign Vancouver Whitecaps winger Alphonso Davies, the two sides have hit a bump in the road, according to Christian Falk of Sport Bild. Obviously, that bump is over the amount of the transfer fee.
Last night’s report in The Athletic stated that the base transfer fee would be $12 million. With current conversation rates, this would put that amount just a bit higher than the €10 million that Falk is reporting that Bayern is willing to pay.
There are two things here that are probably true. First, if Bayern are really interested in signing Davies, they’re not going to let a few thousand euros stand between them and their target. Second, it’s really hard to see Vancouver turning down a base transfer fee of €10 million if that’s all Bayern are truly willing to offer.
However, if you wanted a clear sign that negotiations are ongoing, I’ll let Vancouver’s Twitter account give it to you. A deal is still in the cards.

Saturday’s ICC victory over PSG showed that Bayern has a cadre of young talent with a bright future. If Davies is added to that core, it can only mean good news for Bayern’s future.
