Javi Martinez was injured at Bayern Munich at practice today as the Spanish midfielder suffered a knock to his knee when he collided with young talent Angelo Stiller, who plays for the Bayern U-19 squad. Unfortunately, the blow was serious enough that it forced Martinez to leave training, but there is no word yet on the exact extent or severity of the injury.

Stiller, a 17-year old defensive midfielder, undoubtedly did not have this in mind when he envisioned some day making news for the Bayern first team. The injury comes at an awful time for Martinez and club as Die Roten is about to open up its preseason friendly schedule against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday at the Wörthersee Stadion in Klagenfurt, Austria before continuing the International Champions Cup series tour in the United States against Juventus (Philadelphia - July 25th) and Manchester City (Miami - July 28th).

Already a bit shorthanded due to so many players on holiday after participating in the World Cup, the Bayern roster for the tour could be even thinner if the injury to Martinez is serious.

As more details are released on the status of Martinez, we will update this post.
