When Cristiano Ronaldo departed for Juventus, it was assumed that Real Madrid would be on the hunt for a superstar to help fill the void left by CR7. Today, however, Real Madrid took itself out of the running for Neymar, who just last year left FC Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain with a record-breaking €222 million transfer fee.
The statement, as issued by Los Blancos, is below:
Given the constant information linking the PSG player Neymar Jr. with our club, Real Madrid C.F. wants to clarify that he has not planned to make any offer for the player.
The relationship between the two clubs is extraordinary, so that, if at some point Real Madrid were considering hiring a PSG player, the first thing he would do would be to go to his club.
Real Madrid will likely dip its toes in the transfer waters at some point during this transfer window as it has also been linked to such players as Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane. One thing is for certain, however, it won’t break the bank for Brazil’s Neymar.
An interesting subplot would be if Real Madrid has Kylian Mbappé on its mind. You know, because good relationships and all.
