FC Augsburg signed defender Felix Götze from Bayern Munich Tuesday on a four-year contract, a move that has been activated immediately. The transfer fee has remained undisclosed for the player.
Younger brother of Mario, Felix joined the Bayern first team, signing a professional contract in May 2017 after leaving Borussia Dortmund’s academy in 2014. The German right back failed to make an appearance for Carlo Ancelotti or Jupp Heynckes during the 2017-2018 campaign.

Götze reportedly left Die Roten in hopes of receiving first team action in the Bundesliga. The 20-year-old was quoted on the FC Augsburg website during his official revealing saying,
I have been following Augsburg closely and have seen how much faith they put in young players. So I think the move to Augsburg is perfect and the best way for me to further develop as much as possible.
Götze was included in first team selection three times last season but failed to touch the pitch in a competitive match. The defender has made his debut for Die Mannschaft at the Under-19 level and may have the potential to continue with the Under-21s.
The young right back was a part of a promising youth movement in the first team ranks that included: Niklas Dorsch, Lukas Mai, Ron-Thorben Hoffmann and Marco Friedl. All trained with the first team and are 20-years-old or younger. Dorsch has also left the club, signing a contract with FC Heidenheim in 2 Bundesliga, while Friedl is on loan to Werder Bremen.
The Bundesliga fixture list will be released June 29; however, the German FA announced the first weekend of league matches will take place August 24-26. The Bavarian rivalry will surely see FC Augsburg and Bayern Munich meet soon.
Will Felix Götze start against his old club?
