Fabian Benko, a 20-year-old central attacking midfielder for Bayern II, has signed a professional contract with Linzer ASK in the Austrian first Bundesliga (FCBayern.com). For the past three years, Benko has played for the Bayern Munich amateurs in the Regionalliga, occasionally making cameo appearances with the first team.
Benko, who was born in Munich, has been risen through the ranks of the youth at the club over the past 13 years. In the current season, Benko logged 2630 minutes, starting 30 matches. He tallied 8 assists and 5 goals, including the decisive goal that gave Bayern II the victory over archrival 1860 München in the Hinrunde. He played once for the professional team in the early stages of the DFB-Pokal.
Benko’s contract with Linzer ASK runs until the summer of 2021. Since Linz finished in fourth place in the Austrian Bundesliga this past season, the club will participate in qualifications for the Europa League. FC Bayern Campus director Jochen Sauer said, “With Fabian, a true native son of Munich is leaving us. We thank him for his 13 years with FC Bayern and wish him all the best for his new challenge.”
