Ancelotti wants reunion with Rudy at Napoli

Napoli may be targeting Sebastian Rudy to play next season under newly appointed boss and old friend Carlo Ancelotti.

Bayern Munich and German international Sebastian Rudy has received interested from Napoli in recent days.

The Italian club has reportedly contacted Rudy’s representation to begin talks regarding a possible transfer away from the German giant this summer. According to Sky Sport Italia, the two parties fancy the possible move but no official offer has been presented.

Rudy is a central defensive midfielder who can move to right-back when needed; however, both areas on the pitch are occupied by legitimate starters at Bayern. Joshua Kimmich has a monopoly on playing time at right-back while Javi Martinez and Arturo Vidal have been preferred in the CDM role.

The 28-year-old came through the ranks of Stuttgart’s youth academy before making the move to TSG Hoffenheim in 2010. Since arriving in Munich last summer, Rudy has been linked to other clubs as well. This past season, reports linked Rudy to S04 Schalke and a return to boyhood club, VfB Stuttgart, which were denied by the German fullback.

Rudy came to Bayern Munich last summer on a free transfer, signing a three-year contract with Die Roten. However, if Sebastian Rudy does leave this summer, his expected transfer value is estimated to be €15 million.

A subsequent report coming from Sky Sport Italia said that the transfer is possible due to mutual interest and the appointment of former Bayern Munich boss, Carlo Ancelotti. Rudy’s representatives commented on the matter saying,

The only thing we can say is that [he] has a special relationship with Ancelotti, [he] appreciates him, likes Napoli and vice versa.

Before Ancelotti’s dismissal by Bayern, Rudy played a full 90 minutes in five of the ten matches the Italian boss managed last season, appearing in nine total.

Ancelotti’s return to his native Italy has been far from quiet in the transfer window. Carlo wasted no time and has agreed to terms with Balogna striker, Simone Verdi. Ancelotti was named Napoli manager May 23.

Rudy may secure a starting role at Napoli that may not be provided to him at Bayern but Rudy’s camp also stated that the defender is currently focused on playing for Germany at the World Cup and will not make any decisions until his duties with the national team are completed.
