Per an official press release, Bayern Munich have signed exciting youth prospect Oliver Batista Meier to a long-term contract. Oddly enough, the release fails to specify precisely how long Batista Meier’s new contract runs.

Batista Meier rose very rapidly through the ranks last season, playing in 14 games for Bayern B Junior U-17 team before jumping up to the A Junior U-19 team, for which he played 24 games. He scored a whopping 22 goals for the U-17 team in just 17 games, and 11 goals at the U-19 level.

Sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic looks forward to watching Batista Meier’s development:

Oliver is very talented. We’re happy we’ve secured his services over the long term. He’s a fine footballer with a lot of pace and superb dribbling skills. Our goal is to help him improve.

Batista Meier himself expressed his intention to make it to the first team sooner rather than later:

I’ve always dreamed of it. I’ll do everything to become a pro here. I’m very happy to be here, and I hope I’ll make it to the pros as soon as possible.

Batista Meier plays primarily on the left wing, from where he has scored the lion’s share of all his goals and contributed the most assists. He has also played occasionally as a second striker and on the right wing. After the recent departure of Milos Pantovic from Bayern II, Batista Meier could potentially find playing time there in the Regionalliga.

We’ll all be watching in the meantime.

Update: Watch Batista Meier score 5 goals in a game last September:
