World Cup Gamethread: Nigeria vs Argentina / Iceland vs Croatia

France can secure a top of the group finish if they get a point against Denmark. If France wins, Australia can reach the group stage with a win against Peru.

Denmark vs France — Group C

Denmark can secure their spot in the knockout rounds with a single point against France in the final match. If they get that point the result in the other game doesn’t matter at all. However, if France gets the win in the match, Denmark have to hope results go their way in the other one.

Australia vs Peru — Group C

If Australia wants to advance, they have to win this match. Even if they win, they will need some help from France in the other game. If France doesn’t beat Denmark, then it doesn’t matter what happens in this game. After picking up zero points in their first two games, Peru is going to be playing for pride. Can they stop Australia from advancing?

Nigeria vs Argentina — Group D

Nigeria will guarantee themselves a spot in the knockout rounds with a victory over Argentina. They showed incredible class in their victory against Iceland and showed that they do have the chops to take it to Argentina. It would be stunning of Argentina bowed out in the group stage with one of the greatest players ever on the field. There’s apparently been a player revolt against Jorge Sampaoli, so we’ll see if they can get it together.

Iceland vs Croatia — Group D

Croatia has already guaranteed themselves a spot in the knockout round, but they can still finish in second if Nigeria beats Argentina. Look for the Croatians to exert the dominance that they showed against both Nigeria and Argentina in their first two matches and put away Iceland.
