Brace yourselves: Bayern Munich are set to play host to Manchester United at the Allianz Arena on August 5th to cap off their pre-season friendlies program—the record German champs vs. the record English champs. The announcement was just made today from Bayern’s official web site, and pre-sales have already begun at Säbener Straße’s service center.

Just after the announcement was made, the club’s twitter pages engaged in some quality banter, after Manchester United’s main account said that they’d be partaking in a friendly with a “big club in Germany”:

For many, this fixture, albeit only a friendly, brings to mind previous competitive meetings between the two sides in the past. Bragging rights edge slightly in Bayern’s favor, as far as the last two decades are concerned. In the last 11 meetings between the two sides in the Champions League since 1998, Bayern have won four times, lost twice, and drawn five times. Manchester United, of course, have the infamous Champions League final win from 1999, but Bayern still hold the more favorable head-to-head record.

The momentous friendly will also serve as a platform for Bayern to showcase their new-look Allianz Arena for the first time with the red and white seats as well as the graffiti artwork that’s been designed by fans. Additionally, interactive fan events will be taking place just outside and around the stadium in the buildup to the friendly itself in what will certainly prove to be an incredibly enjoyable experience for both sets of fans ahead of their respective league campaigns.
