Lewandowski (non-)comments on report of his transfer request

Robert Lewandowski knows exactly how to pretend he and the player represented by his agent are completely different people.

The transfer poker has begun and Robert Lewandowski is keeping his cards close to his chest, while his agent makes his moves. Today at the press conference for the Polish national team in Arłamów, Lewandowski gave the perfect non-answer to a question about the Sport Bild report that his agent had officially informed Bayern Munich of his intentions to transfer to a new club.

Asked about the reports, Lewandowski commented,

These are things that my agent is taking care of. I’m concentrating on preparing for the World Cup; that’s what’s most important. I’m not thinking about anything else.

The answer is obviously disingenuous, since Lewandowski hired Pini Zahavi expressly for the purpose of engineering his transfer away from Bayern to a new destination. According to a report by Bild (paywall), Lewandowski talked to friends about his desire for a transfer as early as January this year. He parted ways with longtime agent Cezary Kucharski to collaborate with Zahavi in February.
