Bayern Munich’s veteran CFO Jan-Christian Dreesen was rushed to the hospital in Madrid prior to the second leg of the Champions League semifinal against Real Madrid. Bild (summarized at TZ) now report that Dreesen in fact suffered a nearly fatal heart attack.

In the hours before Bayern played Real Madrid in the second leg of their Champions League semifinal tie, news broke that Dreesen had suffered a circulatory collapse and had to be rushed to the hospital. Dreesen departed back for Munich almost immediately afterword. Team internal specialist Dr. Roland Schmidt was at the scene, saving Dreesen’s life. Dreesen was immediately flown back to Munich in a flying ICU, where he underwent successful heart surgery.

Dreesen has been Bayern’s CFO and executive board member since 2013, overseeing some of the most biggest financial growth in the club’s history. He recently extended his contract with Bayern for an additional five years, through 2023.

Gute Besserung, Herr Dreesen!
