The Bayern Munich roster is already loaded and we still haven’t even seen the results of what the summer transfer window holds. Even without any further additions, however, there would be plenty of reasons to be excited about next season’s squad. Between the talented young players on the roster, the veterans hitting their prime, and the players we already know are coming into the fold, our writers put down their own thoughts on which player they are looking forward to see suiting up for Die Roten next season.

Leon Goretzka. I am really looking forward to seeing how Goretzka fits here with the abundance of talent in the central midfield. Goretzka first really caught my eye in last summer’s Confederations Cup, where he put forth a dominant performance for Germany. I really gave Niklas Sule a lot of thought here as well. I thought Sule showed great promise this season and looks like he has the foundation to evolve into one of the game’s great center backs.

Kingsley Coman. I can’t wait to see what Coman can do as a proper out-and-out starter next season. Hope he gets his injury situation sorted as he’s already a big difference maker for us in my opinion.
Phillip Quinn
Joshua Kimmich. I’m very excited to see where Joshua Kimmich takes his game next. He’s so talented that I’m not convinced he’s not wasted at right back. We’ll see. He’s great.
John N. Dillon
James Rodriguez. I was skeptical when Bayern signed him, but he was amazing. I really want to see how James fits into Niko Kovac’s system. His play making ability is incredible and nicely complements Bayern’s typical preference for wingers.
Brian Kellogg
Kingsley Coman. Electric on the ball and offers pace and dribbling skills that scare defenders out of their boots. He’s only going to get better.
Valentin King
Serge Gnabry. I’m very excited to see how Serge Gnabry plays next season. His versatility will be welcomed by Niko Kovac, as he’s experienced up front, out on the wing, and even as a left wing-back in a back three/five. Everyone’s hoping he can establish himself as the wing partner (wingman?) to Kingsley Coman for the next several years. His 10 goals and 7 assists in 1519 minutes is good for a goal contribution every 89 minutes, which would have been second best amongst Bayern’s wingers this season, behind Thomas Müller.

Manuel Neuer. Absence truly makes the heart grow fonder. I was amazed by the poise Sven Ulreich showed in a difficult and unenviable situation this year. That being said, in the nicest way possible to Sven, how many times did you think this year, “Manu would’ve saved that”? I missed that beautiful man, and I cannot wait for him to be back in my life.
Mike Lynch
James Rodriguez. Talent has never been a problem for Jimmy. But now that he has finally found a supportive stable environment to ply his trade, it has really started to blossom.
Tom Adams
Corentin Tolisso. For me, I’m incredibly curious to see how our record signing from last summer’s transfer window will fare under Niko Kovac. This will have been Tolisso’s 3rd different manager since being signed by Carlo Ancelotti, but he impressed in spurts under Jupp Heynckes, so I’m really excited to see if he can flourish under Kovac. I think he’s shown a versatility in midfield that not all of Bayern’s midfielder possess. You can utilize him as a central, box-to-box midfielder, a wider midfielder, an attacking midfielder, or a holding midfielder. I think he’s got incredible potential to continue to grow under Kovac and it will be exciting to see if he can improve upon his goal and assists return having scored 10 goals and provided 7 assists across all competitions this season; especially since he may not have gotten as many minutes as he would’ve liked.

James Rodriguez. After a rough few months under Zinedine Zidane and Carlo Ancelotti, Rodriguez was finally able to discover his true potential under Jupp Heynckes. He is an incredible playmaker and I believe Bayern is the best thing that has ever happened to him. If he is able to keep up the pace, he’ll be unstoppable next season. He delivered some great performances and I’m totally looking forward for more.
