Bayern Munich will play Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2018 DFL Supercup this summer. This will be Bayern’s seventh straight Supercup appearance. They’ve only missed one since the preseason cup was brought back in the summer of 2010. This is the first ever appearance in the Supercup for Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Supercup is the yearly Bundesliga Champions vs DFB Pokal Champions preseason cup competition to start the season. As is tradition, the Bundesliga winners will hit the road for the contest. Bayern have only hosted the Supercup once in 2012. That came after Dortmund won the double in 2011-12.
The match will be Niko Kovac’s first chance for silverware as Bayern manager, and the first match against his old (current — you know what I mean) team that he took to their first trophy since they won the 1988 Pokal.
While the date hasn’t been finalized at this time, we can narrow down the date thanks to previous summers with the World Cup or European Championship. It’s likely that the match will take place during the second weekend in August.
