Bayern Munich U-19 goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann signed a professional contract this morning as announced on the Bayern Munich English-language Twitter account (@FCBayernEN). The move likely signals that Tom Starke will transition back to his role as a goalkeeping coach within the Bayern youth academy, as Hoffmann will now provide depth behind Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich. Hoffman joins fellow youngster Christian Früchtl in the goalkeeper competition.

Hoffmann has bounced between a number of clubs over the years as he has worked his way through various youth systems. Hoffmann first joined FC Hansa Rostock Youth in 2005. From there, Hoffmann got a grand tour of the youth academies for Hertha Berlin (2009-2013) and RB Leipzig (2013-2015) before finally moving over to Bayern Munich in July 2015.
The 19-year old appeared in 24 games and conceded 26 goals for the Bayern U-19 squad, compiling 10 clean sheets along the way. Hoffman’s deal will be through the 2021 season and he will surely be a member of the travelling squad for Bayern’s trip to the United States for the International Champions Cup this summer.
