Bayern Munich and Paulaner Weißbier; it’s a match that’s truly made in heaven in the heart of Bavaria. The best football in Germany paired with one of the country’s finest biers, mostly in part thanks to the Bavarian Purity Law; it’s a recipe for the best of any and all ocassions. Perhaps the best of occasions, though, is the age old tradition of the Weißbier shower, or ‘Weißbierdusche,’ after a Bundesliga title is clinched.
For Bayern, their sixth consecutive title was clinched by virtue of a 4-1 win over FC Augsburg a little over a month ago, but the official title celebrations cracked off at the Allianz Arena following the final whistle of their underwhelming 4-1 defeat to Stuttgart. Although the result ever so slightly subdued the mood of the celebrations, the Bayern players wasted no time getting the Weißbier showers started.
By the end of the celebrations inside the Allianz Arena, there was hardly a player or staff member left that hadn't been soaked in Weißbier (alcohol free), and there were a few players in the squad that went above and beyond to make sure everyone got doused. Manuel Neuer, in particular, really made his presence felt on the Weißbierdusche highlights reel, especially for his candid pours on fellow keeper Sven Ulreich, and sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić. A special shout out should go to Thomas Muller, who worked incredibly hard to chase down one of Bayern’s staff members who was quite reluctant to have any of the nectar poured on him; assists go to Sandro Wagner and Joshua Kimmich for their help on that one.
Have a look at some of the best bits:
Is there anything better than a beer shower?
