Injury update: Coman and Neuer complete team training for first time in months

Jupp Heynckes promises that a completely different team will face Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB-Pokal final.

Fantastic news for Bayern Munich on the training pitch today: for the first time in what seems like ages, both Manuel Neuer and Kingsley Coman were able to complete an entire training session on Tuesday, as Bayern prepares for the final match of the season, the DFB-Pokal final against Eintracht Frankfurt.

The return to full training for Neuer was particularly momentous. As incredible as it sounds, it was the first time he had completed a full session since refracturing his foot in September. And according to Bild’s Philipp Kessler, Neuer did not hold back:

Manuel Neuer completed the complete team training today. For the first timesince his foot fracture in September 2017. Positive: he charged full-on into duels during crossing and shooting training.

Neuer could be seen flying through the air and making saves under the watchful eyes of Jupp Heynckes. It is increasingly likely that Neuer will be in the squad for the Pokal final, although according to Bild’s and Sport Bild’s information Sven Ulreich will start in goal.

After today’s training session Bayern Munich is increasingly optimistic that Manuel Neuer will make it to the World Cup. For the Pokal final, though, they will stick to the original plan: Sven Ulreich will play against Frankfurt.

Jupp Heynckes has promised, “A different Bayern team will play in Berlin compared with the Stuttgart game. From Tuesday, we will prepare perfectly for the coming challenge.”

In addition to Coman and Neuer, David Alaba also was able to complete the training session, while Juan Bernat, Arjen Robben, and Jérôme Boateng worked on side pitches. Besides Arturo Vidal, Corentin Tolisso and Rafinha were not present, but are expected to be back on Wednesday.
