According to a report by Spanish-outlet, Marca, Javi Martinez has not yet healed from the head injury he sustained last week and will not start for Bayern Munich.

The news comes as a the latest in a long line of injuries that have decimated the Bayern roster. Martinez, who has manned the defensive midfield spot almost exclusively under Jupp Heynckes, will give way to Corentin Tolisso.

Javi Martinez will not be able to participate in the game against Real Madrid due to the blow he suffered in the first leg and for which he had to be replaced. Martinez received a strong blow that caused a bruise on his skull, on account of which he was unable to finish the game at the Allianz or play on Saturday in the Bundesliga. Although everything indicated that he would play in the game, he ultimately could not recover. In theory, [Corentin] Tolisso will take his place.

In addition to the Marca report, SportBild’s Tobias Altschäffl has also tweeted that Martinez is still injured.

Martinez is listed as a substitute on the game day roster, but it would appear unlikely the status of a head injury would change over the course of a game. It will be interesting to see if Heynckes opts to substitute Martinez in if the situations of the game call for it or if Martinez is, indeed, unable to play at all.
