Jupp Heynckes was mistaken for a regular Bayern Munich fan at the team’s hotel in Augsburg ahead of Saturday’s Bavarian derby. After finishing his pre-match press conference, Heynckes returned to the podium to describe a comical incident that occurred when he got on to an elevator with an elderly American couple in the hotel (via FCBayern):

“Oh, you are a fan of Bayern Munich?” I said, “Yes, sure.”
Heynckes then added that Bastian Schweinsteiger had told him in a text message (after Schweinsteiger had moved to the Chicago Fire) that everyone in America knew who he was. But apparently, that’s not the case, at least not for this friendly old couple in Augsburg!
Ironically enough, the laughable moment comes just days after Heynckes became the first ever manager to win 12 consecutive matches in the Champions League after Bayern came from behind in Seville to beat Sevilla 2-1. Not to mention his record of 17 wins in 20 Bundesliga matches since taking over for Carlo Ancelotti. Bayern are now just one win away from clinching their 6th consecutive title.
If you’re a true Bayern fan, and don’t find this funny, we’re not too sure how we can help you. (Just kidding . . . maybe.)
