Okay, the international break is over. Bayern Munich can finally get back to the real business of the Bundesliga, as they face Borussia Dortmund in the first Klassiker of 2018. However, coming on the eve of a big Champions League quarter final clash against Sevilla, the question of how Jupp Heynckes will line up on Saturday.
Jerome Boateng was the only Bayern player (that we know of) to have picked up an injury on international duty. While it wasn’t serious, we can be almost certain that Boateng won’t play against Dortmund, to save him for the Sevilla game. Manuel Neuer continues on his path to recovery, however he won’t be available until the end of April at the earliest. Meanwhile, Kingsley Coman remains sidelined for the foreseeable future.
At least there is some good news. Thiago Alcantara played both international games for Spain, so he should be fit to start. Javi Martinez, Arjen Robben, and Franck Ribery will all be well rested and ready to go after a two-week break. And finally, Thomas Muller was sent back early from international duty, so he should also be rested an ready to start.
Here’s how we think Bayern might line up in the Klassiker on Saturday:
