Per a report in Kicker, Jerome Boateng avoided serious injury in Tuesday’s friendly against Brazil, but is still questionable for Der Klassiker on Saturday versus Borussia Dortmund. Boateng, whose recent history has been marred by numerous ailments, will undoubtedly look to be back on the pitch as soon as possible, but Bayern Munich may be cautious with its precocious defender.

Boateng, who was subbed off for Bayern Munich teammate Niklas Süle in the 68th minute, absorbed a knock and tried to play on, but was ultimately too injured to continue. The match was Boateng’s debut wearing the captain’s arm band for Germany in his hometown of Berlin and the injury surely soured what was a tremendous personal achievement for him.
Bayern manager Jupp Heynckes has used a deep squad rotation during his most recent tenure as coach and has been conservative with injured players. Unless Boateng is 100% fit on Saturday, it would probably be another case where Heynckes opts to provide an injured player more rest.
