Lewandowski and Hummels in nasty exchange of words in training

No handshakes after this nasty exchange on the training pitch—precisely the nonsense Jupp Heynckes doesn't need.

As if Robert Lewandowski had not created enough drama for Bayern Munich, the Polish superstar was at the center of a heated exchange with his teammate Mats Hummels at Säbener Straße today (as reported by Bild). During a drill in which the two were on the same team, Lewandowski paused to tie a shoelace rather than play defense. His and Hummels's opponent Corentin Tolisso scored easily, and so their team lost.

Hummels was having none of it:

H: “Lewy, are you serious? You're seriously tying your shoelaces? Fucking bullshit!

L: “You just lost the ball now!”

H: “That was a mistake. With you, though, it’s your attitude.”

L: “You constantly lose the ball. You just talk.”

H: “Oh shut up! Get lost!

The two of them then stood there on the pitch without apologizing and did not shake hands after the final whistle. Lewandowski kept his distance from Hummels as they headed for the locker room.

As if on cue, the confrontation embarrassingly occurred just as Bayern Munich’s chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge pledged that “Jupp Heynckes won’t tolerate any nonsense” in a new interview on the club website. Rummenigge is confident that Bayern will stay focused despite the 19-point lead they currently have in the Bundesliga—provided the team doesn’t trip over its laces.
