For a long time, it seemed that Brazilian winger Malcom was destined to end up in the Premier League, most likely at Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur. However, with Bayern Munich entering the race, things seem more interesting.
Back in 2016, when Malcom first came to Bordeaux from Brazil, Willy Sagnol happened to be the coach. Sagnol, who played for Bayern Munich during his career and was assistant to Carlo Ancelotti for a time, had this to say about his former star winger:
I discovered Malcom and brought him from Brazil to Bordeaux in January 2016. I was under some pressure in France because I paid five million euros for an 18-year-old. From today’s perspective, it was a real steal. And he still hasn’t finished developing.
The manager who once scouted him continued by comparing Malcom to Bayern’s incumbent wingers: Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.
He’s more of a player like Robben than Ribéry. He is not that fast, but has superb technique.
A strong endorsement for the young Brazilian. Malcom has 8 goals and 6 assists in 2,065 minutes of league play. Bordeaux want a fee of €60m for the youngster. Should Bayern Munich break the bank for him?
