With the regular pomp and circumstance, the draw for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup was held in Paris on Saturday. Germany know where they are headed, so let’s get right to it.
Germany was drawn in a group with China, Spain, and South Africa. They’ll open the World Cup in Rennes against China. The second match sees Germany in Valanciennes against Spain. They’ll round out the group in Montpellier against South Africa.
Remarkably, FIFA thought it necessary to have Didier Deschamps, Luis Saha, Michael Essien, and Kaka involved in the draw ceremony. Will women players have as big a presence at the draw for the 2022 Men’s World Cup? Nobody loves making tone deaf decisions quite like FIFA.
The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup takes place across France from June 7 to July 7.
